In Sunday's New York Times Magazine, they had an article on "The Year in Ideas: An Encyclopedia of Innovations, conceptual leaps, hare brained schemes, cultural tremors & hindsight reckonings that made a difference in 2001"

Of note, was an article about the new "tubular lattice network" golf ball design that was developed by Steve Ogg of Callaway. "Ogg's new geometric design achieved the holy grail of ball design: 100 percent surface coverage. Technically the ball--the Callaway HX--has no flat spots, and aerodynamically it has no peer: in test after test the HX flew farther than any other ball Callaway tested." The ball will be available in March.
